20th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards Air Saturday

Friday, March 30th, 2007

kids_choice_awards_2007.jpgIf you watch nothing else on TV this weekend, you should definitely tune in for the 20th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards Saturday night. The Kids’ Choice Awards show has become probably the most entertaining awards show on TV over the last few years. You certainly don’t see any burp contests or celebrity slimings on the Oscars!

This year’s Kids’ Choice Awards, hosted by Justin Timberlake, will feature musical guests Gwen Stefani, Akon, and Maroon 5. Gwen Stefani and Akon will perform the song “The Sweet Escape” off of Gwen’s recent album. Maroon 5 will be performing their brand new single, “Makes Me Wonder,” from their soon-to-be-released album “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long.”

The numerous celebrities expected to attend will be anxiously waiting to see just who ends up being the recipient of the annual celebrity sliming. For the first time ever, kids will get to vote online at Nick.com to determine how the slime will be dispersed. In other slime-related festivities, Ryan Seacrest will be hosting a breathtaking, never-before-attempted World Record Slime Stunt featuring bungee jumping.

The awards show will start at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, so pop some popcorn, gather the kids, and enjoy the show. If you have any SpongeBob fans in your house, you might also want to catch the brand new episode of SpongeBob Squarepants that will be airing just before the awards show at 7:30.

Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Sometimes I am amazed at just how oblivious I can be. In our house we tend to get stuck on watching certain shows and forget that there is such a wide variety out there. I guess when you have 500 plus channels to flip through it just becomes easier to stick with the ones you know you like. That’s why I was so surprised when a friend mentioned that her son loves to watch TLC in the mornings. I had no idea that they had children’s programming in the mornings. I have to say I’m a little embarrassed about that since I write a blog all about kids’ TV shows.

meteor.jpgThis morning I decided to flip over to TLC and see what was on. I was pleasantly surprised to catch an episode of Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks. A show about Monster trucks wouldn’t normally be my thing, but I was really impressed with it. The CGI-style animation is bright and colorful and the characters are all unique and very loveable.

Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks is basically a show about friendship and how to treat others. It revolves around Meteor and his group of young, big-wheeled friends who are striving to become monster truck heroes like those before them. In each episode, the young trucks learn about what it takes to be a monster truck and compete to see who can accomplish each obstacle the fastest. Each truck has different strengths and weaknesses and nobody wins all the time. Along the way, the friends teach viewers important lessons about sportsmanship, friendships, and feelings.

In this morning’s episode, “Sue the Rooter Truck,” a stinky, bossy, new Rooter truck named Sue joined Meteor and the group. While the other trucks played together, Sue kept to herself in the corner. Eventually the other trucks reached out to her and found out that she wasn’t really so different. She just didn’t think anybody would like her because of her smell. Once they assured her that they actually liked the smell that made her different, they all got along quite well.

If you haven’t seen Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks, I suggest you give it a try. While it doesn’t teach a foreign language or even ABC’s, it does teach some very important lessons about how to get along with others.

The newest set of Bigfoot Presents: Meteor and the Mighty Monster Trucks episodes is set to premiere April 16-20 on Discovery Kids and TLC.

Even More High School Musical

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

highschool_musical.jpgFirst there was the Disney movie, then the cd, dvd, concert tour, plans for a second and third movie, the ice tour and now there’s a traveling stage version of the ever popular High School Musical. I hate to be negative, but haven’t we had enough? Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer of Disney Theatrical Productions, says that the tour is “a direct response to overwhelming demand.” I’m glad Disney is making money from their tween phenomenon, but there has to be a point where enough is enough. How many different versions of the same show can you really have and still find a demand?

The new stage version will not feature the same talent as the movie, so if you are looking for Zac Efron, Corbin Bleu, Ashley Tisdale or the rest of the gang, you are out of luck. You won’t be seeing them in this show. The show will include include a live orchestra and 35 yet-to-be-announced actors.

The theatrical version of High School Musical debuted at the Theatre of the Stars in Atlanta earlier this year and will make several stops before the official opening August 1st at the LaSalle Bank Theatre in Chicago. On sale dates for tickets will be announced locally. Official tour dates will be announced later this spring.

Show Some Wonder Pets Love

Saturday, March 24th, 2007

wonderpets.jpgNick Jr. is holding asking for photos of kids that love the Wonder Pets. Your child’s picture may be showcased either online or on TV. The picture must be of your child dressed as one of the Wonder Pets, showing off a Wonder Pets craft, or holding an original drawing of the Wonder Pets.

Go snap some photos, submit them to the Nick Jr. Fan Gallery, and then watch Nick Jr. to see if your child’s picture is shown. I bet your kids will love to see their picture on TV. Heck, I would like to see my own picture on TV.

Handy Manny

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

HandyManny.jpgHandy Manny, voiced by Wilmer Valderrama (Fez!), is a bilingual repairman from the friendly town of Sheetrock Hills. When somebody needs help, they call for Handy Manny and his trusty set of tools. He can fix nearly anything and in the process manages to teach viewers about problem solving and how to get along with others.

Manny’s tools are always anxious to help him out, but their unique personalities sometimes cause conflicts. When that happens, Manny has to use his problem solving skills to settle the conflict and help everyone get along.

Kelly (voiced by Nancy Truman) is a friend of Manny’s. She runs the hardware store where Manny often goes to pick up supplies. She is generally very helpful and helps Manny find just what he needs.

Mr. Lopart (voiced by Tom Kenny), who Manny frequently runs into, owns the candy store next to Manny’s workshop. He has a bit of a know-it-all attitude and often refuses Manny’s help. This tends to get him in trouble more often than not.

Handy Manny
is an entertaining show that teaches preschool age kids in a fun way. While it doesn’t shove ABC’s and 123’s at them, it does teach them some great interpersonal relationship skills. Handy Manny can be seen on Playhouse Disney at 9:00 a.m. ET/PT.

Gumby Comes to YouTube

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Did you grow up with the stretchy green character known as Gumby? I remember being introduced to Gumby by my cousin who was wearing a bright green Gumby shirt during our vacation one summer. I had no idea who Gumby was until he professed his love and explained what in the heck that green thing was. I’m not sure I ever really understood, but to each his own. If you loved Gumby as much as my cousin did and have a desire to re-live the days of your youth, you now have it. Thanks to DMGI, you can now watch Classic Gumby shorts on YouTube, Google Video, and In2TV. They will also be released on DVD later this year. Check a few of them out and share them with your kids. You never know, they just might like them.

Blue’s Room Premiere Week

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

bluesroom.jpgIs your kid as crazy about Blue’s Room as mine is? If so, you’ll want to make sure and catch all four new episodes premiering March 26-29th. Nick Jr. will be airing the new episodes at 10:00 a.m. (ET/PT) Monday through Thursday, followed by a marathon of the four new episodes from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Friday. See Nickelodeon’s descriptions below for more information on each episode:

* Monday, March 26, 10:00 a.m. — “Away Great Playdate”
After a play date with their friend Jalen, Blue and Sprinkles discover that he has left behind his favorite duck hat. In order to return the hat to their friend they must figure out how to get to Jalen’s house. Joe has the answer — transportation! Dictionary helps them learn about transportation and Joe transforms a big cardboard box into a train, a taxicab and an airplane. On the journey to find Jalen’s house, Joe takes Blue and Sprinkles to a real city where they play “I See” and to an actual beach where they look for seashells. But it is not until the trio reaches a farm that they finally find Jalen and return the missing duck hat.

* Tuesday, March 27, 10:00 a.m. — “Little Red Riding Blue”
Blue and her friends are acting out the fairytale of “Little Red Riding Hood.” In their version, Little Red Riding Hood (Blue) and Little Red’s brother (Sprinkles) are bringing homemade banana bread to grandma, who has a cold. Doodle Board leads their journey through the woods by drawing the correct paths to take. Along the way, they bump into a wolf (Joe), who wants a piece of their bread. Blue and Sprinkles tell the wolf that if he wants a piece, he needs grandma’s permission. Blue and Sprinkles soon discover that the wolf is pretending to be grandma!

* Wednesday, March 28, 10:00 a.m. — “Knights of the Snack Table”
Blue and Sprinkles pretend to be knights and their quest is to help King Joe rescue his four missing dragons. Along their journey, Blue and Sprinkles build a medieval castle with Princess Frederica, mix a magic potion with Roar E. Saurus and navigate through a maze with Doodle Board. For each rescued dragon, they earn a new picture that appears on their knightly coat of arms. There’s still one dragon left and the only way to catch this last creature is to follow a series of musical hints. It’s an adventure suited for the smartest knights in the land and luckily, Blue and Sprinkles are up for the challenge.

* Thursday, March 29, 10:00 a.m. — “Music Stars”
Blue and Sprinkles are experimenting with making music when Boogie Woogie suggests they become more than just ordinary musicians and transform into rock stars. The music stars magically create a stage for their big concert, but there’s only one problem — the curtain won’t go up. The only way to raise the curtain is to create a musical act. With a little help from their friends, Blue and Sprinkles learn to create their own lyrics, original music and dance moves. With each new addition to their act, the curtain rises a little more, until finally it is show time, and all of the Blue’s Room stars are ready to perform.

gwen.jpgVoting for Nickelodeon’s Annual Kids’ Choice Awards is now well underway, but you still have time to cast votes for your favorites before the show airs on March 31st. Rumor has it that this year’s KCA’s will be the best yet. Justin Timberlake will be hosting the festivities. Nickelodeon has also lined up Beyonce, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Queen Latifah, Mike Myers, Zac Efron, Bindi Irwin, Hilary Duff, Jessica Alba, Jamie Lynn Spears, George Lopez, Jon Heder, Chris Evans, Drake Bell, Emma Roberts, Jesse McCartney, Nelly, Ciara, Shia LaBeouf, Hayden Panetierre, Ice Cube, Masi Oka, Ty Pennington, Tyler James Williams, Devon Werkheiser, Lil’ JJ, Nat Wolff, Alex Wolff, Chris Brown, Tom Kenny and Ryan Sheckler to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the awards show. If that isn’t enough to be excited about, Gwen Stefani will also be teaming up with Akon for a musical performance of her song, “The Sweet Escape” during the show.

The Slime Across America Tour is going full force, with the next stop in Albuquerque, New Mexico on March 21st. You can get a taste of what’s happening on the slimey tour by checking out the tour’s photo album. You can also catch clips of the tour during Nick’s Me:TV segment. There are only six more stops before they arrive at the Kids’ Choice Awards, where the truck will serve as a stage for celebrity interviews during the pre-show telecast hosted by TEENick’s J. Boogie.

Besides the regular coverage of the KCA’s, Nicktropolis will offer a new virtual Kids’ Choice Awards themed world for kids to explore and chat about the awards in real time. They will also be able to watch the live TurboNick webcast together in viewing parties. TurboNick will be covering the Orange Carpet, backstage, and the Kids’ Choice Awards after party. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with SpongeBob Stickers

Saturday, March 17th, 2007

stickers.jpgA while back I signed up for an account at Nickjr.com. Once you have signed up for a membership, you have access to Nick Jr. exclusives that they offer from time to time. Today they are offering some exclusive SpongeBob SquarePants stickers for St. Patrick’s Day. If you have some SpongeBob fans in your house, I suggest printing these off and having some St. Patty’s Day fun. If you don’t have any sticker paper handy, you can just print them out on regular paper, cut them out, and use some tape on the back to stick them where you want them. You do have to sign up for an account, but I promise it isn’t too painful. Besides, they’ll send you a weekly e-mail to let you know what special activity they are offering each week.

High School Musical On Ice

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007

highschool_musical.jpgIf you haven’t had enough of High School Musical, then you are in luck. Apparently the live concert tour wasn’t enough because now they are bringing “High School Musical: The Ice Tour” to a city near you. Supposedly, the ice will bring a new twist to the tween favorite, but I have to wonder if this isn’t overkill. How many different versions of the same show do we really need to see?

Rehearsals are already underway and tickets for the U.S. shows will be on sale April 2nd. The show kicks off August 31st in Lakeland, Florida, and will travel to at least 100 cities.

High School Musical fans also have “High School Musical 2″ to look forward to this summer, and “Haunted High School Musical” in 2008.
