Gym Teacher: The Movie Review
Last night Nickelodeon’s first primetime television movie premiered called Gym Teacher: The Movie. I did not have much expectation for it to be good or bad and thus was not disappointed by it. However, I also was not all that impressed by it. It was slightly better than I expected, especially once it got past the beginning, but it is not exactly a must see.
The beginning was kind of annoying with lots of moments of the Principal hitting on the Gym Teacher (Dave Stewie). I thought the romance was going to ruin the movie, but it pretty much disappeared in the second half. It then turned into a more interesting movie, especially for kids who do not like the mushy stuff or did not understand what was going on.
The movie turned out to be very different than I expected in that the Gym Teacher pretty much wants to and tries to give up at almost every obstacle, especially involving the uncoordinated Roland. It ends up often being the kids of his class that keep him going for Gym Teacher of the Year, which is kind of the opposite of how I expected.
Basically the movie is about the Gym Teacher not wanting to choke again and not to have his students have the same embarrassment he went through when he choked at the Olympics. It is a kind of interesting movie with him helping Roland gain confidence in his physical ability and in turn help his mother, who the Gym Teacher starts to date, stop being so afraid of letting her son really live life. It is missing the touching aspects and inspiration that the plot seems like it should have.
If you misses it and want to see it, they are showing it again tonight on Nickelodeon and you can also supposedly watch it on Turbo Nick’s website.

We watched this together as a family and found it quite enjoyable. It was great to see Chris Meloni in something not so dramatic and I always enjoy seeing Amy Sedaris - so for a moment between her and the shop teacher, it was a tiny, tiny reunion for Strangers with Candy.
Some of the plot was predictable, but we definitely weren’t disappointed.
