Kids TV on DVD Review: Elmo Saves Christmas
Elmo Saves Christmas is a Sesame Street Christmas movie I remember watching years ago when my brother was young enough to be into the show. I remember it being one of our favorite Christmas VHS tapes we owned. For this review I rented the DVD from Netflix to watch it again and hopefully see special features added to the DVD. I was however quite disappointed to find that there are absolutely no special features to the point that there is not even a menu for selecting viewing options like subtitles.
The basic plot of the movie is about Elmo saving Christmas twice. The first time is at the beginning when he helps Santa get unstuck in Elmo’s chimney on Christmas Eve. Santa then gives Elmo a magical snowglobe that grants Elmo three wish. Elmo ends up using his second wish to wish for Christmas to be everyday. At first it seems like a great idea, but Santa knows it is bad and has one of his reindeer fly Elmo into the future to see why. Basically he sees how it is to have Christmas in the spring, the summer, the fall, and then one year later in winter again. As he goes through the different seasons he slowly realizes that Christmas everyday makes the fix it shop’s work pile up, Big Bird sad because he misses his friend who is supposed to come home the day after Christmas, and Christmas not be so special.
Overall the movie itself is a good one at least in my opinion, although I notice a lot of reviews about kids not liking it even though they like Elmo and Sesame Street. That along with the fact the DVD has no special features makes me recommend this as only you absolutely should rent before even considering buying it.
