Kids TV on DVD: Rugrats Holiday Celebration
Rugrats Holiday Celebration is a two disc set of holiday themed Rugrats episodes. The first disc has five Halloween themed episodes. Since I am focusing on Christmas/winter episodes for Tots TV Watch 25 Days of Christmas Kids TV on DVD Reviews, I am going to just list the names of the Halloween episodes. They are ““Curse of the Werewuff,” “Ghost Story,” “Aunt Miriam,” “Sleep Trouble,” and “Spike’s Nightscare.”
The second disc is what makes me include this in my 25 reviews this month. This disc does have one non-Christmas/winter holiday episode about Thanksgiving, but it is mostly winter holiday episodes. The Thanksgiving episode is called “The Turkey Who Came to Dinner.” It has two Christmas themed episodes. One is called “Babies in Toyland” and is about the babies wandering a Christmas theme area in search of Santa to get a present for Dil. The second is called “The Santa Experience” and is about Angelica being afraid of getting coal and the babies trying to stay up to see if Santa is real. There is also a Kwanzaa themed episode called “A Rugrats Kwanzaa” that teaches quite a bit about Kwanzaa to the point that it might be a little overwhelming for younger kids. Lastly there is the “Chanukah” episode that teaches the story and tradition of celebrating Hanukkah.
These DVDs do not have any special features, but I rate this among the better holiday collections anyways. The main reason being that it does not just cover Christmas, but also Kwanzaa and Hanukkah, which teaches kids about different holiday traditions that may or may not be their family’s traditions.
