Sonny With a Chance Review
I will be honest I did not really intently watch this show, but I did watch the first two episodes while doing other stuff. It was not that I planned it that way, but rather that the show did not really catch my interest at all and I do not at all feel like even rewatching them before writing this review because they were kind of boring. Basically I did not expect much from this show and it proved uninteresting.
I think there are some that will like this show. I mean All That was quite successful, but this is the type of comedy central crap I hate. By the way I do not mean the show is crap, but rather that I personally really hate comedy sketch stuff that is just stupid comedy. I do like some comedy shows, but they are comedy sitcoms and they are not stupid sketch comedy like this show is. Yes, this show is sort of a combination of the two, but it just has no real plot to it. The plots have little depth and it seems like it bounces around too much without getting anywhere.
In the end, though, I am quite surprised that this was such a disappointment to me. I really do tend to like Disney Channel shows besides their recent animated series (Phineas & Ferb and The Replacements). Up until now, though, I still liked their live action stuff. I do have hopes for their new show Aaron Stone for Disney XD/Toon Disney, but I have no hope for the next new Disney Channel show called JONAS about the Jonas Brothers.

I haven’t watched “Sonny” yet…but did Tivo it for my 5 year old (who loves Demi Lovato because of “Camp Rock”). She says the show was good…so I guess I’ll have to watch and see if she’s right.
I used to not like Phineas and Ferb…but after watching a marathon of it during a bout of “sick kids Sunday”…well it grew on me. I love how [and don't judge me!] the boys always get away w/ their antics, and it always ends with “Oh there you are Perry”, “how about a snack” and “then Ferb says….”
gosh…perhaps I watch too much Disney!

i like the sketches, they’re pretty funny, but the show lacks depth and complexity…
the plots don’t have to be complex, but all of the characters should be developed enough to be able to carry a story or have a plot spun around them.
so far, the supporting characters just react to the situations spun from what Sonny or Chad or Tawny (or Marshall) does, when Zora and Nico and Grady could be just as developed.
it isn’t as important for the plots to always revolve around Sonny as it is for Sonny to be the “go-to” gal.
“Sonny…” has an ensemble cast and the supporting actors are quite funny and talented on their own, and the characters could be given enough development and freedom without taking the spotlight away from the star of the show.
i think even an eight year old can see thin characterization.

i’m glad i wrote what i wrote earlier, maybe it put a fire under a producer from the show to step up a little or maybe the show just had a slow start. “Sonny…” is definitely one of Disney’s best shows and THE ONE i look forward to watching new episodes the most; 16 episodes already aired in the first season, and still going strong!
the thing is, “Sonny…” has both Michael Feldman and Dava Savel (who helped put together “That’s So Raven), and they haven’t let me down.
