TV on DVD Review: Alvin and the Chipmunks Daytona Jones and the Pearl of Wisdom
Alvin and The Chipmunks: Daytona Jones and the Pearl of Wisdom contains three episodes from the Alvin and the Chipmunks Go to the Movies series. The episodes are all parodies of movies. The episodes are enjoyable as long as you like the Chipmunk.
The main episode is called “Daytona Jones and the Pearl of Wisdom.” This is a parody of the first Indiana Jones movie and parallels quite well with a good Chipmunk flavor to it. It starts with Alvin pretending to be Daytona Jones and trying to dramatically save Theodor and Simon tied to a tree. It then cuts to the parody segment.
The second episode is called “Batmunk.” This is a parody of Batman. It interestingly starts with the Chipmunks making Dave’s car into the Batmobile and then watching the movie (the Batmunk parody) in the car in the garage kind of like going to the drive in movies.
The third episode is called “Robomunk.” This is a parody of Robocop, although I think a lot of kids these days (and young adults like me) have no idea what the original movie is about. The episode starts with Alvin making Theodore look like a Robot and act like one by following Alvin’s commands to trick Simon into thinking Alvin made it.
Overall this DVD is entertaining and enjoyable, however, it is pretty short with only three episodes. Plus it has no special features to add depth to it. Thus it really is only worth renting.
