TV on DVD Review of the Week: Super Mario Bros. Mario Movie Madness

Super Mario Bros: Mario’s Movie Madness contains five episodes of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, which originally aired on television back in 1989. It may be an old cartoon, but with Mario still being a popular video game character I think this is a great cartoon to be rediscovered by a new generation of kids. This DVD makes it easy for them to see Mario in one of the series he has starred in.
The episodes on this DVD are all parodies of movies. Some of these parodies may not be noticed by kids today, but some of them I am sure they will still recognize. For example, the first episode on this DVD is called “Star Koopa” and is a parody of Star Wars. It is a funny parody with Mario, especially when Jedi Mario says “May the pasta be with you.” The second episode is called “Toad Warriors” and is a parody of Road Warriors, which I do not think many kids would be familiar with. The same goes for the third episode called “Robo Koopa,” which is a parody of Robo Cop. The fourth episode is called “In Her Majesty’s Sewer Service,” which is a James Bond parody that kids may recognize. The fifth episode is a bonus episode that is another very recognizable parody. The episode is called “Raiders of the Lost Mushroom” and is a parody of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Overall this cartoon is one that can be enjoyed by the whole family, except maybe some younger kids that it may not be exactly suitable for or interesting for them. The show may be an old animated show, but the animation is still good animation for its time period. In particular, this is a good distraction when the trying to beat the latest Mario game is frustrating you.
