TV on DVD Review: Tak and the Power of Juju - The Trouble with Magic
Tak and the Power of Juju - The Trouble with Magic is the first and only DVD release of Tak and the Power of Juju, so far. I personally had never seen the show before watching this DVD release. The show seems interesting enough and I really would like to get around to trying the video games this show is based on. However, I found it hard to follow and confusing the way the episodes were ordered on the DVD. I felt like I was missing information and did not really get a good grasp of the main development of the show. That said it does seem the shows do have kind of stand alone plots, but the thing is that there is just some confusing elements that feel unexplained. At first I thought there is some earlier episode that is not on this DVD that explains the background, but then I looked online this DVD actually contains the parts from the first four episodes and then randomly has episode 18, so maybe you have to get the background from the games.
I do think that some kids will enjoy this, especially those that like the game. Also, I must give this show credit for great animation. I also think it is overall a great show considering I usually do not like the animated stuff Nickelodeon makes these days for the older kids. Lastly I like this DVD release because it actually has some good special features including Original Animatic for the “To Zaria With Love” episode, 5 shorts, and a little introduction to the show called The Voices of Tak. This actually really helped me better understand the show and I really recommend watching first if you are new to the show.
