TV on DVD Review: The Chipmunks Go to the Movies
I rented The Chipmunks Go to the Movies because I liked the parody episodes on the Alvin in the Chipmunks Daytona Jones and the Pearl of Wisdom DVD release. I was quickly annoyed to find that the DVD has one of the same episodes as the Daytona Jones release and like the Daytona Jones release it has no special features. Plus, the episodes on this release just were not as good. Yes, the “Batmunk” one that is on both is good and the third episode on this release is okay, but the first was totally boring to me. The biggest disappointment, though, is that it only has three episodes and one of them is on two of the show’s DVD releases and I had already seen the other DVD the episode is on.
The first episode on this release is “Star Wreck.” This show is a Star Trek parody. I really never have been into Star Trek and truly do not understand the whole Star Trek thing. Thus this whole episode just played without ever getting my attention.
The second episode is “Batmunk.” I am also not much into Batman, which this episode is a parody of. However, this episode is still interesting and I do like it. I just do not like that it is one third of two separate releases of this show. I realize this DVD actually came out before the other one I have seen, but it would be nice if each release had three unique episodes and no overlap between the two DVD releases. At least it is one of the more enjoyable episodes.
The third and final episode is “Funny, We Shrunk the Adults.” This one is a little confusing with it seeming to be a regular Alvin and the Chipmunks plot of Dave being shrunk, but it really is like the other Go to the Movies episode in that the three Chipmunks are watching it as a movie. It is a fun parody episode of Honey, I Shrunk Us and is the best unique episode on this DVD.
