Video Game Review: Franklin’s Great Adventures for Nintendo DS
Franklin’s Great Adventures for Nintendo DS is mostly an adventure game, but it also has mini games integrated into the game that can also be played separately. The controls are for the most part pretty easy to use, however, I found that level 3 was impossibly to figure out and frustrated me. The game seems to be a good one in terms of graphics and game play, but the impossibility of level 3 puts me off of wanting to recommend it. I imagine some can figure out the level, however, I also imagine that many young kids will have even more trouble with this game and this game should be made for young kids to easily play. Sure a challenge in a game is nice, but it just seems like too much of a challenge or at least too much of a challenge so early in the gameplay.
The game is not all bad, as it does nicely use the characters from the Franklin animated television series. It also has some good controls that use the DS’s unique capabilities including a mini game involving blowing into the microphone to race a sailboat. There is also some tracing games that involve using the touch screen. Thus I really think it is overall a well done game, but I just personally did not like that the third level was entirely frustrating and prevented me from being able to even try to beat the whole game. Bottom line is that I think it might work out for some Franklin fans, but it is probably best to rent it before even considering buying it.
